Our Story

The date, time, and location where they experienced their first date. He was early, she was on time. She walked in and he was seated at their table. He stood up when he noticed her presence and smiled saying, “I’m Wesley” and he reached for her hand and placed both hands over her hand and shook it – like a southern salesman making a successful sale.

Unbeknownst to her, her face expressed a look conveying “What in the world?” Her innermost thoughts were filled with surprise as she had never experienced such a wholesome gesture from a stranger. It aligned with what she already surmised. He truly wanted to get to know her.

In the single world, a breakfast date is unheard of. He was intentional. He asked her out directly after introductions were made on Hinge – also unheard of. Now, he held her hand, looked into her eyes, and spoke his name in such a sweet, gentle way.

His innermost thoughts, once he saw her facial expression, were “Wesley! You messed it up already.” He thought he ruined the introduction and she was surprised and delighted that he was truly a gentleman.

Although they both had questions for each other, they simply talked. For FOUR hours nonstop. They only stopped the date because they each scheduled separate plans for 1PM that day not realizing they would meet the person God created for them.

They spoke of love, loss, wants, needs, childhood, goals, dreams, and above all their shared faith. They each experienced what they previously thought was love in the past. They quickly realized the first encounter could actually turn into something special. 

By the second date, they knew it to be true love. Not just a children’s fairytale. An enduring, consistent, beautiful, blessed, simple love that one experiences only after losing too much and finding their way out of the darkness. 

That unexpectedly wonderful first date ended with a hug and exchange of phone numbers with a second date on the horizon. That day at The Frog & Hen, they laughed, cried, smiled, held hands, and forgot about the world around them and half of the food on their plates. 

The only indication the world continued to exist were check-ins from their sweet redheaded waitress and a conversation had later that day with his brother and SIL reporting he stopped by the restaurant during their first date and didn’t interrupt as Wes & Jess were so intensely focused in the moment, he could not bring himself to interrupt.
